One person has died after protesters took to the streets of Sagamu in Ogun State over the killing of Tiamiyu Kazeem, a Remo Stars Football Club player, over the weekend.

The protest turned violent after policemen allegedly tried to disperse the crowd by shooting in the air. The protesters had marched to the Palace of the Akarigbo and the Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Babatunde Ajayi, demanding justice.
At the palace were Gbenga Daniel, a former governor of the state; Adewunmi Onanuga, a member of the House of Representatives representing Remo Federal Constituency; and Funmi Efuwape, the state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, to calm the protesters down.

Armed policemen have been deployed in the area to restore order.

Tiamiyu, popularly known as Kaka, was reportedly killed on Saturday along the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway after he was arrested by operatives of the Zonal Intervention Squad in the Obada area of the state.

His club claimed he was shot dead for refusing to cooperate with officers of the Special anti-Robbery Squad (SARS). However, the police in the state say he was knocked down by a hit-and-run driver while he attempted to cross the road after he was arrested for wearing a camouflage cap.
