Anthony Sani, Secretary-General of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), has said people who accuse President Muhammadu Buhari of supporting herdsmen should have their heads checked for insanity.
He said this in a chat with Sunday Punch. He said it was wrong to have such notion, saying the President had said he is the saddest leader in the world due to the various cases of insecurity across the country.
“Anybody who posits that President Muhammadu Buhari gives herdsmen tacit support must have his head examined for insanity. Why would a President, who campaigned against insecurity across the land, turn around and encourage insecurity?
“To what end for God’s sake? I hope those who make such mindless allegations against Mr President are aware of the fact that the President has himself said the level of insecurity across the nation makes him the saddest leader in the world. Also, note the fact that Buhari’s district head in Daura has been kidnapped and is yet to be rescued.
I think the insecurity across the land is troubling the President a great deal, and he is doing his best to overcome the challenges. All Nigerians should come together and join hands to fight the criminals terrorising the people and make the country peaceful for development.
“We must unite against insecurity because fighting insecurity is a collective responsibility and should not be left for governments alone. Everybody must be involved in this,” he said.
Sani also addressed the issue arising from the presidency’s comparison of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders’ Association to Afenifere and Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
The matter had drawn criticism by the members of the socio-cultural groups saying they were different from the herders, who they described as terrorists.
However, Sani said the presidency was right in its comparison. He said the group was also an ethnic organisation and the presidency may not be wrong to have compared them.
He however said the ACF was different from Miyetti Allah, saying they are an umbrella platform that accommodates all Northerners irrespective of ethnicity and religion while Miyetti Allah was strictly an ethnic organisation.
