A Yoruba rights activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has lambasted the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, over his comment after he met with President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja last week, regarding the Fulani herdsmen crisis in the South-west.
Ooni had told Igboho not to take the law into his own hands fighting alleged killer herdsmen, after he issued a quit notice to Fulanis over accusation of kidnappings and other crimes in Igangan, Ibarapa North Local Government Area of Oyo State.
“He has done well and we’ve already praised him but he shouldn’t take the law into his hands. We have the governor there. He is the chief security officer of the state and Mr. President has invited him (Makinde). Let the right people that are being authorized do what is right to do,” the monarch had said.
But reacting during a virtual town hall meeting on Tuesday, Igboho said the Ooni is insane for failing to tell Buhari what Yorubas want concerning Fulani herdsmen in the region because he collected dollars from him.
“That man called Ooni, he is mad. I wanted to do a video but people told me not to. Alaafin was supposed to be the one to meet Buhari in Abuja. But when Buhari invited him (Ooni), he should be able to tell him the truth”, he said.
“Buhari stood up to receive him. Buhari was already afraid. What had never happened before. He should be able to tell him ‘this is what my people want, this is what Yoruba want’. After he had collected dollars, he got back and started saying rubbish. You know he is insane. It is better if all of you will tell him the truth. He is a traitor”.
He disclosed that the Ooni invited him over after the meeting with Buhari, but he turned down the request.
Igboho explained that Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, was also disappointed in Ooni’s comment.
The activist said the Alaafin is the only monarch in the south-west that has publicly declared support for their effort to rid the region of killer herdsmen.
He threatened to attack Ooni and other Yoruba leaders betraying the people because of selfish gains.
He said Tinubu and other Yoruba leaders are slaves to Fulani.
“The thing is Yoruba leaders that we respect so much are cowards. They can’t speak up. They are slaves to Fulani. They begin to say different things once they get to Abuja and collect money. At this point, there is no need to be afraid of anything. Any of them of them that does not cooperate with us, we will attack him and destroy his properties. Nigeria is already divided. Yorubaland is on its own.
“We need to deal with the Ooni, he’s misbehaving. The trip he made to Abuja, I know Buhari will give him a bag full of dollars, that was why he said the things he said. All of you should talk to him. The day we will approach with war, it will be worse than Ife and Modakeke war. He could be on the road, we’ll stop him and attack him,” he stated.
Igboho also tackled the Oluwo of Iwo, Abdulrasheed Akani, who wears turban and describes himself as an “emir.”
The Yoruba activist attacked the state governor, Seyi Makinde, saying he is only interested in his second term ambition.
