Members of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) have arrested four suspected terrorists at the Old Oyo National Park.

Rotimi Olumo, Coordinator of OPC in Oyo State, said four AK-47 rifles were recovered from the suspects.
He said the suspected terrorists had been handed over to the Police Area Commander in Igbeti.

Olugbenga Fadeyi, the state Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the arrest to The Punch.
The message read, “On September 20, 2020, around 7pm, a combined team of the police and vigilante groups encountered bandits in the forest in the Igbeti Kisi areas in their hideout and three suspects were arrested while some escaped with bullets wounds.”

The PPRO added that Special Anti Robbery Squad is investigating the case.
Some weeks ago, the Aare Onakakanfo Council, led by Gani Adams, who is also leader of the OPC, said in a communique that it had “credible intelligence” on the infiltration of terrorists into the region, particularly in Niger state and Oke-Ogun axis of Oyo state.

The council further asked the federal government to intensify its effort in securing the country’s land borders to prevent the entry of criminals from neighbouring countries.
