The microblogging site, Twitter, has removed a tweet published by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo over a copyright violation.
Osinbajo’s tweet on 8 March contained a video in commemoration of International Women’s Day, with Beyonce’s song: ‘Run the World’, used as its audio.
Following the discovery of Beyonce’s song used as the video’s audio, a Twitter user @olayknowless, had asked Beyonce to report Osinbajo’s account for violating the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (“DMCA”).
Twitter subsequently removed the tweet, although the exact day this was done is not known.
“This tweet has been withheld in response to a report from the copyright holder,” Twitter said on the post.
@olayknowless, who made the complaint, thereafter, alerted the world that the microblogging site had taken action over his objection to the tweet.
This is the second time in recent times that Twitter would be deleting the post of Nigeria’s topmost political leaders.
It had in June deleted President Muhammadu Buhari’s tweet where he threatened to treat Nigerians “misbehaving” in “the language they understand”.
The Federal Government had on 4 June announced the indefinite suspension of Twitter in Nigeria.
