A protest held in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State on Saturday over police killing of two students of the Osun State University (UNIOSUN). The deceased, Kazeem Adesola and Ibrahim Ajao, were reportedly playing football on a pitch off the university campus.
A report said they were killed by policemen on patrol, who allegedly had a habit of harassing the students over suspicion they engage in internet fraud, know in local parlance as yahoo-yahoo. The killer cops, who state police commissioner, Fimihan Adeoye, said had been detained, were attached to
Zone 11 of the Nigerian Police Force.
An unnamed student told the Nation that the affected policemen “would say that we are involved in yahoo-yahoo and they would seize our laptops and phones. They would collect money on the pretext of bail”.
The student continued: “But we resisted them on this last one. Within a twinkle of an eye, the policemen started shooting. When the policemen started shooting, we ran away but the bullet hit two of us and they were rushed to the hospital. The bullet hit one near the stomach and the bullet hit the second one in the mouth.”
