Governor Rauf Aregbesola suffered a mini-political humiliation on Saturday after his political party, All Progressives Congress, APC, lost his home base, Ijeshaland, to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Saturday’s Osun State governorship election.
The APC and its candidate, Gboyega Oyetola, nearly lost in all the wards in the area, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
According to an APC party strategist, the loss of Ijeshaland by the APC to the PDP’s candidate, Ademola Adeleke, was a worrying development considering that Governor Aregbesola was expected to coast home to victory at his home base.
“This election ought to have been a walkover, except that we were dealt with in Ijeshaland”, the source said.
The governorship election, according to the APC, was supposed to be a referendum of some sort on the almost eight-year reign of Governor Aregbesola.
Collation of the results from the entire 30 local government areas in the state is still ongoing at the time of writing this report.
