Lagos state Government says it has plan to make Saturday’s elite marathon race hitch free, just as it announced Ugandan, Kenyan, Ethopian athletes would include the list of participants. Steve Ayorinde, commissioner for information, says over 20,000 local and international marathoners will take part in the race, tagged Access Lagos City Marathon. Access Bank is the headline sponsor of the event. Ayorinde assured of effective security for athletes and officials and urged residents to turn out on the sidelines to cheer them.
“Similarly we have put in place a team of fully trained and well equipped medical team that will accompany all the participants from the kick-off of the race to the end”, Ayorinde added. The marathon is a 7-hour event. The government said it regretted the disruption of traffic due to restriction to routes marked for the marathoners. The government also said hosting the event has economic relevance to the state’s economy. Newsbreak.ng reporter Benedicta Chika will join the race and has been tagged the 838th participant.
