Femi Gbajabiamila,a contender for the House of Representatives majority leader’s post, has stated a Plan B that would help resolve the stalemate between the party, its loyal lawmakers and Speaker Yakubu Dogara and his supporters. Gbajabiamila was quoted by Punch to have said APC Caucus in the House of Representatives would not shift grounds on the party’s wish regarding the appointment of principal officers. The APC had sent a list to Dogara to announce Gbajabiamila’s name and others as principal officers, but the former did not. Gbajabiamila has said there would be no compromise but for Dogara to respect the supremacy of the party.
“There are people who are saying party supremacy is no longer relevant. Well, our position is clear; it is either party supremacy or the entire APC caucus will conduct an election to decide on this matter. This point was made very clearly at the meeting,” Gbajabiamila said. It was reported that Gbajabiamila and his group met with thegovernors of Sokoto and Kebbi states, who were saddled to mediating in the crisis, but stood its ground. The Gbajabiamila’s group is believed to have the majority, with about 137 members, within the APC Caucus of the House of Representatives, while Dogara has the support of 39 APC members and PDP lawmakers.
