The Federal Government has criticised Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, the founder and President of LoveWorld Incorporated, also known as Christ Embassy, for his claims on Coronavirus and the fifth generation of wireless communication network (5G).

Oyakhilome had in a viral video claimed that the lockdown declared in Lagos and Ogun states, as well as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) was to lay optic cables for 5G network and not curb the spread of Coronavirus.

The popular pastor also claimed that the 5G network is responsible for pandemic ravaging the world currently.

But in an interview, Paul Ogenyi, spokesperson of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), said the popular telecast pastor’s claims indicate that he is poorly informed about the pandemic and needs to be educated properly.

According to the NOA spokesperson, Oyakhilome’s views are unfortunate and uninformed, especially at such a critical period when global religious leaders have suspended religious services and pilgrimages conducted in revered places.

“It is very unfortunate that in this sensitive time that some of our religious leaders are beginning to behave like they are uninformed. The Vatican has issued a directive that there should be no gatherings. The same has happened in Saudi Arabia.

“Nigeria has witnessed four deaths and many infections. So, I appeal to religious leaders to seek information if they are not sure of the facts.

“I am actually surprised that Pastor Oyakhilome is making this statement despite repeated clarifications by the Nigerian Communications Commission that 5G has nothing to do with coronavirus,” Ogenyi told the Punch.

Ogenyi stated that the country may experience a gory situation should Nigerians accept controversial messages such as the one from the Christ Embassy pastor.

“Is he saying the lockdown in the US and China is also because they want to lay 5G cables? If that is what he said then he is not informed and he needs to be educated. Nigeria needs to come together to fight this pandemic. It is real and we must fight it. If this kind of information continues to be disseminated, we will be the worse for it.” the NOA spokesperson said.
