Fulani herdsmen

Over 400 Farmers in the Ido Local Government Area of Oyo state, on Thursday, staged a protest over the continued destruction of their farmlands by Fulani cattle rearers. They called on the government to check the excesses of the herdsmen, who they accused of attacking them with machetes some time ago, after destroying their farms. Their spokesperson, simply identified as Alhaji Asimiyu, said the herdsmen attacked some farmers in Adedapo, Olorode, Keji, Aboke, Pelu, Alagbe, Gbagba Elewure and Areyinjetu villages. He further said cassava, maize, yams, tomatoes, pepper and vegetables were destroyed by the grazing cattle.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Leye Oyebade, settled the dispute between both parties and warned them to avoid any action that would damage the relationship between them. The Yamma and Sarkin Sasa, Haruna Maiyasin promised to address the situation and urged the farmers to maintain calm.
