Contingents from Oyo and Taraba States to the ongoing 20th National Sports Festival have been disqualified for not meeting the COVID-19 guidelines for the games.

Daily Trust reports that Philip Shuaibu, deputy governor of the host state, Edo, and Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), disclosed this to journalists at the screening centre.
“We have to be strict with the guidelines so as not to use the games as an avenue to spread COVID-19 in the state which has already been flattened,” he was quoted to have said.

He explained that though the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 gave the approval for both states to be admitted, the teams have to go through strict screening and testing before they will be allowed into camp.
It was said that two athletes from both states tested positive for the virus at the game and are being treated at the Stella Obasanjo Isolation Centre.
Thirteen states have so far been screened at the games.
