Germany playmaker, Mesut Ozil has slammed ex-international Mehmet Scholl over the latter’s criticism of his performance against Poland. Scholl had accused the midfielder of being “indifferent” in his approach to the game. Ozil, responding to the criticism,  said he was not bothered by such criticism as he has always given his best whenever he plays for the national team.

“I’m sorry but quite honestly I don’t care what others say.

“And that mustn’t influence me during this tournament.

“There are always people who tell us their opinion, usually negative. I don’t know if they have to or not.

“If a former player or anyone else wants to be in the headlines – that bounces off me. As I said: The manager’s opinion counts, Mr Low tells me the truth and what is wrong or right,” he said

Germany sit top of Group C with four points, three from a win over Ukraine and one from the 0-0 draw with Poland. The team will need a victory over Northern Ireland to cement a first place finish and raise their hopes of making it past the second round.
