Atiku Abubakar, a former Nigerian vice president, has been attacked on social media for his silence on calls for the resignation of Isa Pantami, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, over extremist comments he made years ago.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, an ardent critic of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government, has not made any comment on the ongoing debate. His last tweet was on Friday evening talking about the killing of three students in Greenfield University in Kaduna.
Some observers have suggested his silence on the Pantami matter may be an endorsement of the latter’s extremist comments while others said he could be an extremist himself.
Oga, swallow your heartbreak. The deaths of these students were sealed by the germination of seeds planted by characters like Pantami
You cannot publicly mourn the symptom but be silent about the disease. You cannot, Oga
Better to unlook completely & tweet about Arsenal’s woes. https://t.co/2QQcyslkO3

Even “progressive” Atiku cannot openly condemn Pantami. We are in soup o.

For Atiku not to condemn Pantami, he advertently and tacitly endorsed him. These fellows put their religion (the way they understand it), first before the country. The earlier we understand their mindset, the better for us.

What has Tinubu and Atiku said about Pantami?
Good morning Twitter.

Atiku and co are also standing with Pantami. Don’t be deceived by their silence. At least, Buhari is bold enough to openly admit it. #PantamiMustGo

On Pantami, what is Atiku saying? What is Bola Tinubu saying? Kwakwanso? Saraki? El-Rufai?
Nigerians must really understand that it not about political parties. The wicked ruling class are united.
It is always them against us!
We must rise in thought!
