In a bid to prove to the world that it is a gender and women inclusive party, Nigeria’s ruling party, the All Progressive Congress (APC) has announced a reduced fee for all women and physically challenged aspirants contesting in the forthcoming wards, local government and state congresses across the country.
In a document sighted by Newsbrak Thursday afternoon, the party says “all female aspirants shall pay 50% of the prescribed fees and physically handicapped aspirants shall also pay 50% of the prescribed fees.”
The party goes on to say that “aspirants to party positions in the wards, local governments and states will be elected at the various congresses and will be required to be persons with the highest degree of character, competence, capacity and shall pay the specified fees for the party nomination form.
For the ward chairmanship position, each candidate is to pay the sum of N10,000, while other offices contestants will pay N2,000 each.
“Persons nominating candidates from the ward, (chairmanship candidate) shall require one sponsor per polling unit within the ward, while other positions shall require one sponsor from at least half of the polling units within the ward.”
For local government chairmanship position, the fee is N25, 000 each, while other offices pay N10, 000 each. Persons contesting for local government chairmaship position will require one sponsor per ward within the LGA, while other positions will require one sponsor from at least half of the wards within the LGA
At the state level, chairmanship position attracts N100, 000 each, while other offices will pay N30,000 each per aspirant contesting.
The APC says “persons nominating from the state (Chairmanship candidate) shall require one sponsor per LGA within the state, while other positions shall require one sponsor from at least half of the LGA’s within the state.
“All aspirants for state chairman and state secretary must have attained the level of Secondary School Certificate or its equivalent.”
