Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate, claims to have met with Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, to discuss ways to resolve the ongoing issue inside the party.
This was said by Atiku on Sunday night during a live debate on People’s Townhall, an initiative of Channels Television and its collaborators.
When asked why he hadn’t already resolved the month-long crisis, Atiku responded, “I have personally met Wike four times: twice in Port Harcourt, twice in Abuja, and once in London.”
“It is not on my part; it is on the other side; I am waiting for him,” he said, without revealing the kernel of his discussions with the Rivers governor.
Wike’s bid for the presidency in 2023 came to an end when he was defeated by Atiku in the PDP primary in May. However, Atiku later chose Okowa as his running mate over his closest competitor in the primary.
As a condition for supporting Atiku’s bid for the presidency in 2023, Wike and four other PDP governors collectively known as the G5 have mandated that Iyorchia Ayu, the national chairman of the PDP, must resign and be replaced by a southerner.
