The Northern Peoples Democratic Party (NPDP) Elders’ Support Group on Friday cautioned members against engaging in political activities that could hinder the party’s victory in the 2023 general elections.
The National Coordinator of the group, Mr Nasiru Sadauki, gave the advice at 2022/2023 PDP Community Based Mobilisation Vanguard and Presentation of Manual and Guide for Atiku/Okowa campaign support groups in Kaduna.
Sadauki said the programme, aimed at creating effective enlightenment, was for party members, stakeholders and goodwill ambassadors in selected states in the North.
He enjoined party leaders to focus on issues of economy, insecurity, poverty, education crisis and other challenges that had threatened Nigeria’s unity and cohesion.
“There are issues on ground that needed leaders to make sacrifices and proffer solutions.
“Nigerians are tired of media display of arrogance by certain groups of political elites in the country,” he said.
Sadauki, therefore, advised party members to disregard any political class not acting to rebuild the nation.
“We wake up daily with news of unpleasant happenings in the country, especially the killing, maiming and kidnapping of our fellow Nigerians including women and children.
“Ayu must go” and “South will not agree” are issues that should be resolved amicably behind curtains.
“Those fanning the embers of disunity, cohesion and progress of PDP are doing so to create confusion that may make Nigerians reconsider APC.
“We call on PDP supporters within and outside the country to unite and support the leadership of the party to collectively rescue and rebuild the country,” he said.
The PDP crisis is not fully resolved as Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, insists the National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu, must leave.
