The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has moved to replace sacked Governor of Ebonyi state, David Umahi, with Hon. Iduma Igariwey.
Newsbreak reports that the move comes following the verdict by the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja issues an order to sack David Umahi and his Deputy, Eric Kelechi Igwe, for defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The governor and his deputy had been elected into office in the 2015 and 2019 general elections on the platform of the PDP. However, they defected to the APC in 2020.
Reacting to the verdict, PDP National Chairman, Senator Dr Iyorchia Ayu, who appreciated the Nigerian judiciary for what he described as a “landmark judgement,” said the verdict would bring order in the political space and check the issue of political rascality and stolen mandates.
Iyorchia Ayu further told newsmen at the PDP National Headquarters, Wadata Plaza, Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, that the party submitted the names of Iduma Igariwey as governor and Fred Udogwo as a deputy to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
