The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has denied being behind a call for postponement of the general elections. The elections are scheduled to begin with the presidential, senate and house of representatives election on 14 February. But dissenters believe it should be shifted given the slow distribution of the permanent voter cards, PVC, by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
Femi Fani-Kayode, director, Media and Publicity, PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation has exonerated the party and its presidential candidate, Goodluck Jonathan from those agitating for poll shift. He said, “The decisions to postpone or delay the elections are firmly within the purview of INEC.
“It has absolutely nothing to do with President Goodluck Jonathan, the PDP or anybody else. We have said all along that we believe that it is important that every Nigerian has the voter card.
“The only thing that we can say is to urge the INEC to ensure that (distribution) is done as quickly as possible,” he told reporters.
