Timothy Ogbeye, a petitioner, collapsed on Monday while narrating to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) his ordeal in the hands of officers of the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit of the police.
Ogbeye, who petitioned the NHRC over alleged unlawful arrest, detention, torture and assault by operatives of the now-disbanded unit of the police, was called to take the stand at the ongoing NHRC Nigeria panel in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
However, he collapsed while narrating his ordeal.
He was later revived and then taken to the hospital.
The case has now been adjourned to the March 24, 2021, for hearing.
According to the NHRC Nigeria, the allegations by the petitioner are against “Mr. Okon of Defunct SARS Asaba, Delta State, OC Defunct SARS Asaba, Delta State, Commissioner of Police Asaba, Delta State and IGP.”
