Nigerian police on Wednesday fired shots in the air to disperse some thugs who identify with Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan.
Newsbreak reports that after 3SC’s 1-1 draw with Remo Stars in a Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) match at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan, Oyo State, on Wednesday, a popular sports journalist, Tobi Adepoju, was physically attacked by the home fans who reportedly claimed that he was in Ibadan on a special assignment sponsored by enemies of the club.
Adepoju, although a known 3SC fan, has been very critical of the club and its management on social media.

Reacting to the incident, the Lagos State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) demanded an immediate apology from 3SC.
In a statement e-signed by Bunmi Ogunyale, Secretary, Lagos SWAN, obtained by this news medium, the organization seriously fumed at the attack on Adepoju.
Read SWAN’s statement below:
Our independent findings revealed that three journalists, Mr Tobi Samuel Adepoju, Mr Ayo Animasaun and Miss Atinuke Esan were assaulted after the 3SC and Remo Stars’ NPFL game.
Lagos SWAN Chairman, Debo Oshundun, wants the Ibadan-based club to write an apology letter and also replace damaged items of the victims in the next 48-hours.
Oshundun frowned at the act of subjecting journalists to such traumatizing situations while carrying out their professional duties.
We are partners in progress with sports development bodies in Nigeria but we have zero tolerance for our members being brutalized.
The management of 3SC as matter of fact should apologize to victims in writing within the next 48 hours and also ensure their damaged equipment is replaced.
Oshundun also called on the club management to ensure that the perpetrators are fished out and brought to book.
He, however, urged the League Management Company (LMC) to sanction 3SC for unsportsmanlike conduct to serve as a deterrent to others.
