Milan legends, former team-mates and club representatives of late Milan and Italy legend, Cesare Maldini were present at his funeral on Tuesday. Maldini, who is father of Italy defender, Paolo Maldini, won four titles and one European Cup with the Rossoneri between 1954 and 1963. The Italian also enjoyed great success as Milan manager, winning the European Cup Winners’ Cup and Coppa Italia between 1972 and 1973 before a defeat to Verona in 1974 cost him his job. Maldini’s legend extended to the national side, helping Italy to World Cup success in 1982 as the team’s assistant manager and he got the chance to coach his son when he was manager between 1996 and 1998.
Son Paolo was joined by wife, Adriana Fossa and former Milan team-mates, which included Andriy Shevchenko, Filippo Inzaghi, Clarence Seedorf and Massimo Ambrosini. The funeral began with a gathering at Saint Ambrose Basilica, Milan. Javier Zanetti and former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, who is also Milan president, were at the funeral.
Maldini made 412 appearances for the club and lifted Milan’s first European Cup in 1963 after beating Eusebio’s Benfica at Wembley.
