Some residents of Igborosun, located along Aso-Odo road in the Badagry area of Lagos State, on Tuesday, defied fear of possible explosion, by rushing to scoop fuel from an overturned tanker, spilling its content.

It was gathered the development caused panic among some of the residents, who took to social media to alert the appropriate authorities.
An eyewitness account said despite the presence of security operatives in the area, the residents continued to scoop fuel.

Olufemi Oke Osanyintolu, the Chief Executive Officer, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), who confirmed the incident, said the agency’s attention was drawn to the incident and emergency response was immediately activated.

“Members of the public are cautioned to cooperate with responders and to keep away from the scene and refrain from scooping petrol as this could cause a secondary incident,” he said.

According to reports, the remaining content was later transferred into another tanker, after the arrival of men of the Lagos State Fire Service.
