The leader of the dreaded cult group, Awawa Boys, Tobi Akinbayo, alias Scorpion, has been arrested by the Operatives of Operation Crush attached to Area G Command Ogba.
A native of Osun State, Akinbayo who was arrested on Saturday, 21 September, was paraded alongside two of his members Balogun Jide and Dolapo One, at Officers Mess, GRA, Ikeja on Monday, during a press briefing by the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Zubairu Muazu.
The 24-year-old is described as the most dreaded in the hierarchy of the group.
His group’s strongholds are Agege, Dopemu, Elere, Ijaye-Ojokoro, Alakuko, Pen-Cinema, Abattior, Iju and Oko-Oba.
They are responsible for series of violent crimes and social disorders in the areas mentioned.
When questioned about being the ring leader or a member of the group, he denied.
“I am not a member of Awawa, I was only arrested after I went to help some people who were involve in a fight, I went there to settle the matter so after leaving the place, that was when I was arrested by the Police who said they’ve been looking for me. I am a shoe cobbler and also a barber, so I am not a member of Awawa Boys.”
On why he was given the nick name Scorpion, he said:”When I was small I use to control people who are bigger than me that was why they decided to give me the name. Like I said I am not a member of Awawa Boys, I have wife and children who I feed at home. So if they want to carry me to anywhere I believe my God will help me.”
