The Anambra State Police Command said it has arrested four more persons in connection with the attack on Professor Chukuma Soludo, a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Ikenga Tochukwu, the command’s Public Relations Officer, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.
The police had earlier in a statement on Thursday said one suspect was arrested after the attack in Soludo’s home town in Isiofia in the Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The former CBN governor was holding a rally ahead of the 6 November governorship election, in which he is an aspirant, when the venue was attacked by gunmen. Three police officers were killed in the attack.
The police statement said four more suspects were arrested on Thursday.
The statement: “Police operatives attached to Anambra State Command today 1st April, 2021 have arrested four additional suspects in connection to the recent attack and gruesome murder of three policemen at Isuofia Civic Center in Aguata LGA of Anambra State.
“The suspects are: Mbah Victor,30, John Olisakwe , 21,Chigozie Omeh, 20,and Emmanuel Nnobi, 28.
“The suspects confessed to have actively taken part in the attack and subsequent abduction of the Commissioner for Public and Utilities, Emeka Ezenwanne, which the Command is working assiduously to rescue.
“Consequently efforts is still on going to apprehend other fleeing accomplices, unravel the circumstances surrounding the incidence and bring perpetrators book.”
