The Lagos State police command said it has arrested a childless couple; Izuchukwu, 51, and his wife, Cecelia, 40, for allegedly buying a stolen one-month-old baby.

The police also said two men, Mbama, 41, and Ekwebele, 30, who stole the baby in Imo State, and sold him to the childless couple, have been apprehended.
“The suspects were intercepted by police Officers from Anthony Police Division, on enforcement duty at Anthony Oke pin down point,” part of a police statement read,

“The officers stopped a Toyota Sienna SUV carrying seven passengers. The officers’ enquiries fuelled the suspicion that the baby was stolen.
“The suspects stated that they were coming from Orlu, Imo State. Further investigations revealed that the suspects had sold the baby to a childless couple in Lagos.

“The childless couples, Izuchukwu ‘m’ 51 years old and Cecilia ‘f’ 40 years old were arrested thereafter arrested after the suspects’ confession.”
The statement added that efforts have been made to hand over the baby to his parents.

“Recovered from the suspects was the baby’s original birth certificate and parents names.
“The baby’s biological parents have been traced and he would be handed over to his parents.

“The suspects are to be charged to Court,” or added.
