Police have arrested a woman for allegedly killing her newly-born baby and dumping her in a pot in Panyam, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau, on Wednesday. It was also said that the woman killed the infant shortly after birth. She suffocated the baby with clothes before dumping her in the pot. The corpse of the baby was discovered by some children who were playing around the backyard of her family house, where she had kept the pot. The Divisional Police Officer, Mangu, Williams Nkarang, aid the woman would be prosecuted but had to recover first as she was still bleeding from delivery.
He said she had been taken to a hospital for medical attention. Nkarang said the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Jos for further interrogation. He also said the father of the baby would be questioned to ascertain if the crime was a case of conspiracy. He said they would be charged with homicide if found to have conspired to commit the crime.
