The Cross River Police Command has arrested a suspect, Blessing Okon-Etim, for selling, as well as stealing a newborn.
Okon-Etim, who confessed to having sold her own three-month-old baby, also confessed to have sold a newborn baby belonging to her mistress for N150,000.
It was learnt that the mother of the stolen newborn sold by the suspect died after delivery.
The 23 years old Okon- Etim, in a statement, said her mistress, who was in the custody of the newborn, was told to take the infant to a relative.
She, however, instead got in contact with a middleman, who helped in selling the child to someone in Umuahia, Abia State, at N150,000. The same middleman reportedly helped in selling Okon-Etim’s three-month-old child.
The Police Commissioner in Cross River State, Alhassan Aminu, paraded Okon-Etim along with 33 other suspects arrested for various crimes.
