The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended a criminal syndicate that swindles unsuspecting Lagosians out of their hard-earned money under the guise of alms begging.
In a tweet, Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, revealed that the suspects used minors obtained from villages for their illegal racket.
Mr. Hundeyin claimed that the suspects had doctors give the kids injections to make their stomachs swell so they would appear more appealing to their victims.
“These men get minors from villages, get a medical doctor to allegedly inject them with substances that make their stomach swell outrageously, and parade them in road traffic as critically sick, to get alms from motorists,” The police spokesperson said.
Revealing that investigations were still ongoing, Hundeyin advised parents to be wary of who they allowed to supervise their child.
