The Police Council, on Friday, confirmed Usman Alkai Baba, as the substantive Inspector-General of Police (IGP).

The council took the decision in a meeting which was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House in Abuja.
Membership of the Nigeria Police Council includes the governors of the 36 States of the federation.
Buhari had appointed Baba as the acting IGP in April, after Mohammed Adamu, the former police boss, clocked the mandatory 35 years in service on February 1.

The President had extended Adamu’s tenure by three months, before Baba was announced as his immediate replacement in acting capacity on April 6.
