Policemen on Wednesday, dispersed a protest in Ibadan, Oyo State, against the arrest of Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo, better known as Sunday Igboho.
Igboho was arrested in Cotonou, Benin Republic, on Monday night, while on his way to Germany with his wife, Ropo.
Both of them are currently being detained in Benin Republic.
The protesters were said to have marched to Soka Bus Stop along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, where they sang songs and demanded the release of the Yoruba nation agitator.
The protesters, comprising males and females, carried placards bearing various inscriptions,
They were said to have called on Yoruba leaders and the international community to fight for Igboho’s release.
They warned the federal government against killing Igboho the way MKO Abiola was allegedly killed.
The protesters were said to have blocked the traffic in the area.
“The policemen came in about four patrol vans and a car. They shot in the air and chased away the protesters,” a resident identified as Musbau Ogunbiyi was quoted as saying.
The protesters were also said to have marched towards Challenge Area after spending some minutes at the bus stop.
However, according to reports, armed policemen took over the Challenge area around 3.30pm.
The armed officers reportedly stationed themselves at strategic positions at the location.
They cleared the traffic and stayed for a while before leaving.
