Officers of the Nigeria Police Force on Saturday fired teargas into a mammoth crowd at the Lagos All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign rally, which held at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere.
The incident occurred after the conclusion of the rally as security operatives had a hectic time to clear the road for the senior leaders of the ruling party and invited dignitaries to exit the stadium.
Upon finding it difficult to control the crowd as some persons were leaving the stadium while some others besieged the vehicles of the dignitaries, some officers pointed their canisters to the air and released its content.
The release of the gas immediately suffocated people, who were seen scampering to shelters outside the stadium for safety.
One of our correspondents, who covered the rally, was also a victim of the incident as he reported that water dripped heavily from both his eyes and noses.
