Austin Iwar, the Commissioner of Police in Kaduna state, has said the command had recovered about 70 illegally acquired arms and ammunition from suspected hoodlums and individuals in the state.
Iwar disclosed this at a stakeholders meeting with some traditional rulers and Hunters Volunteer Association. He said more recovery were still being carried out in other parts of the state
The commissioner further said that the command was determined to recover arms illegally in private hands.
Iwar assured the meeting that the tempo of the operation would be sustained, to ensure peace and development of the state.
Earlier, Baba Wuro, the state chairman of the hunters group, commended the commissioner for introducing community-based policing.
Wuro said various communities in the state had shown willingness to work with the police in addressing challenges facing them.
“Our aims and objectives are to help the security operatives to dislodge criminals from their hideouts.
“We remain committed to work with the police, military and other stakeholders to address the menace in the state,’’ he said.
