The Katsina State police command has rescued eight passengers kidnapped by bandits along Jibia-Batsari road in Batsari Local Government Area of the state.

It was said that the bandits who rode on motorcycles and armed with AK 47 rifles, attacked and kidnapped all the occupants of a Volkswagen Passat Wagon with registration number EPE 754 EZ.

The bandits afterwards whisked the passengers away into the forest.

Isah Gambo, the police spokesperson in the state, said upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Batsari, led teams of Operation Puff Adder and Sharan Daji to the area, chased after the kidnappers and engaged them in a gun duel, during which eight of the victims were rescued.

The rescued victims comprise six females and two males.

Gambo, however, noted that three passengers are still missing.

He added that search parties are still combing the area to arrest the fleeing bandits and rescue the remaining three missing persons.
