The Kano Police Commnad has rescued one Aisha Jibrin, 15, who was locked up in a room for 10 years by her parents in Darerawa Quarters, Fagge Local Government Area of the state.
The police got to know about Aisha’s confinement after they received an information from an unknown source.
According to DSP Abdullahi Haruna, the spokesperson for the command, who confirmed the rescue on Tuesday, the victim’s mother, Rabi Mohd, 35, has been arrested.
Although the police is yet to establish why Aisha was locked up, Haruna said efforts are ongoing to arrest the father, Mohd Jibrin, who is on the run.
In appearance, Aisha looked emaciated, hungry, weak and had difficulty in standing and walking.
She has since been moved to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital in Kano, where she is receiving treatment.
“Information received by the police revealed that one Aisha Jibrin had been in solitary confinement for 10 years.
“Kano State Commissioner of Police, Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko, raised and instructed a team of medical officers and detectives to proceed to the area.
“The team rescued the victim and arrested one of the culprits who is the victim’s mother,” Haruna said.
The Kano PPRO added that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Kano Police Command has launched a discrete investigation into the incident.
