The Nigeria Police Force has shelved its planned presentation of the suspected killers of Alex Badeh, a former Chief of Defence Staff and Naval Staff, scheduled for Thursday.
Jimoh Moshood, the Force Public Relations Officer, announced the change of the law enforcement agency’s decision at a media briefing in Abuja on Thursday.
The police had on Wednesday announced that it would on the following day parade the five suspects who allegedly participated in the murder of Badeh, who was killed while returning from his farm along the Keffi-Abuja road on December 18.
However, Moshood, an acting Deputy Commissioner of Police, said the presentation was postponed in order not to jeopardise the investigation, especially as it is still ongoing, and also prevent other suspects from absconding.
“It is of significant to note that the presentation of the two suspects and the three other gang members will not come up today so as not to jeopardise the ongoing investigation,“ he said.
Moshood added that two suspects had confirmed their participation in the murder, while the other three are gang members.
“The two suspects arrested actively participated in the killing of the former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh,” he said.
The force spokesperson said the police has intensified efforts to nab other suspects who are still on the loose, adding that they would all be presented before the media and public once they are apprehended.
“The force will not relent and will leave no stone unturned in getting to the root of the killing and bringing all perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice,” Moshood said.
