A woman in Rivers State has accused a police inspector of raping her after arresting her for not wearing a face mask in line with COVID-19 protocols in the state.

She identified the officer as Peter Ebah, attached to Sakpenwaa Police Division in the Tai Local Government Area of the state. She claimed the officer arrested her on her way from Bori in Khana Local Government Area to Port Harcourt on Tuesday evening.

The victim, a widow and mother of two, said Ebah then drove her around the area under the pretext of taking her to the police station before ending up in a guest house, where he threatened to shoot her if she refused him sex.
She said the officer offered to transfer N2,000 to her account on Wednesday morning after forcefully having sex with her.
Nnamdi Omoni, the police spokesman in the state said the matter is being investigated, vowing that justice would be served.
