A man who recorded the video of policemen who chained another man to their patrol van has been allegedly brutalised. The man, Irabor Franklyn, had posted a video of the incident, which happened on Sunday, to his facebook page.
He said in a separate facebook post that the men had beaten him along with other passers-by for pleading with them not to drag the chained man with their van.
“I and so many others were brutalised by men of the Nigeria Police Force, Esige Division just because we pleaded with them not to drag a young man chained to the back of their Hilux van along the road.
“This happened morning Sunday May 15th 2017 [sic] between first East Circular Road and Sokponba Road junction,” he posted.
Irabor further accused the police of seizing one Augustine Ogbomwan’s phone for recording the incident. He said the man had been arrested and detained when he went back to the station for his phone.
He claimed that the man had been bailed with N30,000 but was re-arrested when the video surfaced online.
The incident happened in Benin City, Edo State.
