Kola Ologbondiyan, a spokesman for the Atiku/Okowa presidential campaign organization, asserts that the Central Bank of Nigeria’s decision to redesign the nation’s currency and impose restrictions on cash withdrawals has frustrated Bola Tinubu’s attempt to use slush funds for vote-buying at the upcoming presidential election.
Ologbondiyan made this claim in a statement made public on Wednesday, contending that only individuals who have consistently won elections by utilizing bullion trucks were concerned by the CBN’s naira redesign strategy.
“It is clear that Asiwaju Tinubu is lamenting over the redesigning of the naira just because the policy has frustrated his boastful plots to use slush fund, which he reportedly stashed away in the secret vaults for vote buying and manipulative schemes, including alleged funding of thugs to compromise the integrity of the 2023 presidential election through the setting up of the Jagaban Army,” the statement read.
“Of course, only politicians who have always won election by relying on bullion vans have become troubled over the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) monetary policy to redesign the naira,” the statement added.
The subtly-veiled “bullion van” jab may be directed at the ruling All Progressives Congress’ presidential candidate, who is suspected of using bullion van to transport money into his Burdilion home during the 2019 general election. According to reports, the money was intended to be used as a voter inducement during the election.
