Kenneth Okonkwo, a veteran Nollywood actor, has officially joined the Labour Party after dumping the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket.
Announcing his defection Wednesday on his Instagram page, Okonkwo shared pictures of himself entering the party’s office in Abuja.
The movie star said his entrance into the Labour party was to assist Peter Obi emerge as the country’s president at the 2023 presidential election
“It was an honour and a privilege to be welcomed into the Labour Party on the 23rd of August, 2022, at the Supreme God House, Apo, Abuja,” the actor captioned the post,” he said.
“This will enable me assist in my own humble way to the enthronement of His Excellency, Peter Obi, as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria come 2023 for the good governance of our dear country which is so blessed by God but has been so battered by bad leaders,” he added.
Additionally, Mr. Okonkwo declared that he had been appointed the national spokesperson for the organization “Dynamics Ambassadors for Peter Obi (DAPO),” which backs the party’s presidential candidate.
Recall that the movie star in July dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress after the party fielded individuals of the Muslim faith as its president and vice presidential candidate ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
Justifying his decision to dump the party, he argued that the development will destroy the viability of Northern Christians in Nigeria if allowed to stand.
