Liverpool continued their march towards winning the Premier League and extended their unbeaten run to 40 games after they defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 at the Molineux on Thursday.
Captain Jordan Henderson put the table-toppers ahead when he headed in a Trent Alexander-Arnold’s corner after eight minutes.
Midway into the first half, Liverpool lost Sadio Mane to a suspected muscle injury.
Wolves drew level six minutes after the break when Raul Jimenez expertly nodded an Adama Traore cross past goalkeeper Alisson. It was the first goal Liverpool had conceded in the league for more than 12 hours of play.
Despite the home team dominating large parts of the second half, the European champions remain dogged and were rewarded when Roberto Firmino whipped in a thunderous left shot past goalkeeper Rui Patricio six minutes from time, the goal which proved to be the game’s winner.
Wolves produced a creditable performance with Traore and Jimenez proving to be a menace throughout the game, but Jurgen Klopp’s side with the win took another significant step towards their first title in 30 years.
Liverpool have now won 22 out of 23 league games this season, winning 14 straight games in the process.
The league leaders have also tied with Chelsea as the third team to go 40 games unbeaten in the Premier League.
