Didier Deschamps, France’s head coach, has provided an explanation why his team fell to Argentina in the 2022 World Cup final on Sunday.
“We didn’t turn up for different reasons (in the first 60 minutes). We have had to face difficult things in the last 4 days. Illness and then things collectively too,” Deschamps told beIN Sports.
Lionel Messi and company dominated the game for the majority of it, and the reigning champions fell down two goals as Messi converted a penalty before Angel Di Maria made it 2-0.
However, Kylian Mbappe scored a magnificent hat trick to force penalty shootout.
Within 30 minutes, Messi and Mbappe scored once more to force overtime and penalties.
To ensure Argentina won their third championship, Emiliano Martinez made two saves against Kingsley Coman and Aurelien Tchouameni.
