Real Madrid and Arsenal will battle to sign Napoli’s Jorginho in the summer transfer window, reports have said. The Brazilian has been an ever present figure for the Italian club this season and his performances have caught the eyes of Madrid and Arsenal. He was first linked to a move to the Premier League in January with his agent, Joao Santos confirming he had indeed sparked interest from top European clubs.
“Interest from Arsenal? It’s true.
“After the game against Palermo, compliments arrived from Real Madrid as well.
“Only compliments, nothing more. But it’s pleasing to receive expressions of respect from one of the most prestigious clubs in the world,” Santos said.
He, however, insisted that his client’s focus was only with Napoli and all talks of a transfer are not a priority now. He said the 24-year-old was more concerned about his ability to break into Antonio Conte’s Italian squad ahead of the Euros in France. The former Verona star was born in Brazil but has dual citizenship and also an Italian passport having moved to the country at a very young age.
“For the future, we’ll wait for the end of the season.
“Jorginho wants to win the Scudetto with Napoli, he’s enthusiastic about these last nine finals. I want to reiterate that his priority is Napoli.
“Italy call up? I know Antonio Conte has his hierarchy. We’ll see if he can find a way in, I don’t know what position he holds in the CT’s head right now.
“He’s available for the Euros and he’s obviously hoping for it,” he said.
Both Real Madrid and Arsenal are desperate to bolster their midfield options ahead of next season. With Ronaldo slamming Madrid for their lack of quality players, it is likely the team would look to buy more players to challenge for the La Liga title. Arsenal on the other hand have been plagued with injuries to key midfielders, Santi Cazorla, Jack Wilshere, Tomas Rosicky and most recently Aaron Ramsey and will need to buy a player like Jorginho to tidy things up.
