Chelsea’s Technical Director, Michael Emenalo, has told Chelsea TV
that the club sacked Jose Mourinho to protect the club and that there was palpable discord between the former coach and his squad. Chelsea had earlier said Mourinho left the club by mutual consent and that there would be no further comment until an appointment was made. However, Emenalo, who has been at the club since 2010, made some pretty frank revelations in an interview with the club’s in house television channel.
“That’s exactly the point. A contract clearly signifies that what happened today was not a pre-meditated decision. It was a decision taken to protect the best interests of the club,”said Emenalo when asked why the decision was made now.
He went on to make the forthright admission that there was palpable discord between the manager and players.
Emenalo added: “Whilst there is huge sentiment for the individual who has done so much for the club, the fact of the matter is Chelsea Football Club is in trouble.
“The results are not good, and there obviously seems to be a palpable discord between manager and players and we feel it is time to act.”
