The drama in the Plateau State House of Assembly took a frightening dimension on Monday when Abok Ayuba, the removed speaker of the assembly, and 10 lawmakers loyal to him were whisked away by the police.
Edward Ebuka, the Plateau Commissioner of Police, reportedly led the 11 members to four awaiting Hilux vehicles before they were taken away.
The removed speaker and the other 10 lawmakers were moved out of the assembly complex through the back gate.
Abok, when repeatedly asked by reporters if he was under arrest, replied: “I cannot say whether I am under arrest at moment.”
Hon Zingtin Sohchang, a member representing Langtang South State Constituency, added: “We are firm and resolute in our duties to the Plateau people that voted us to the House in our struggle to fight to a logical conclusion until the Speaker is reinstated.”
“We are now being bungled into four Hilux vehicles by security men, to a none verified place and if after 20miniutes you call us and no response, you should know that we have been taken to an unknown place.”
Security agents subsequently teargassed persons who were protesting against the development and dispersed them out of the assembly complex.
