Reno Omokri, a former aide to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, has explained why the Central Bank of Nigeria’s decision to redesign the naira is a good one.
Taking to Twitter to respond to the news, which has been widely condemned by Nigerians who believe the move is yet another attempt to embezzle the country’s funds, Omokri stated that the currency change will render money stockpiled by bandits, kidnappers, and other corrupt elements useless.
Commending Emefiele on the move, Omokri wrote: “The redesign of the Naira is a good idea. Kidnappers, bandits and corrupt elements have stockpiles of Naira that they can’t bank. This change will render their billions useless. The pound and dollar have been redesigned multiple times. On this, Emefiele did well!”
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), on Wednesday, announced plans to launch new currency notes on December 15, 2022.
Newsbreak Nigeria reports that Godwin Emefiele, governor of the bank who made the announcement in Abuja on Wednesday said the new currencies to be launched are N1,000, N500, and N200 notes.
