The House of Representatives has confirmed the appointment of the new service chiefs.
The confirmation of Major-General Lucky Eluonye Onyenuchea lrabor, Chief of Defence Staff; Major-General Ibrahim Attahiru, Chief of Army Staff; Rear Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo, Chief of Naval Staff; and Air Vice Marshal Isiaka O. Amao, Chief of Air Staff, comes a week after they were screened by the House Committee on Defence.
Babajimi Benson, Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, presented the report of the screening to the committee of the whole during plenary on Tuesday.
According to the lawmaker, the nominees were thoroughly screened, adding that they met the requirements expected of them.
The lower legislative chamber subsequently considered and adopted the report.
The confirmation process now heads to the Senate, with the upper legislative chamber expected to confirm the nominees after their screening.
President Muhammadu Buhari had appointed the new service chiefs on 26 January following the resignation of the former officers.
Irabor replaces General Abayomi Olonisakin as Chief of Defence Staff; Attahiru replaces Lieutenant-General Tukur Yusuf Buratai as Chief of Army Staff; Amao replaced Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar as Chief of Air Staff, and Gambo replaced Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas as Chief of Naval Staff.
