The House of Representatives has voted against a prayer seeking to recommend castration as penalty for rape.

In a plenary session on Thursday, the lawmakers adopted a motion on the rising cases of sexual violence in the country.

James Faleke had recommended the punishment.

Countering him, Femi Gbajabiamila, the Speaker, asked what the punishment would be for a female who rapes a male.

The prayer was later put to a voice vote with the nays having it.
