The House of Representatives have summoned Godwin Emefiele, governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and Chief of Army Staff, Major-General Ibrahim Attahiru, to answer questions over purchase of arms.

According to The Nation, the decision was taken at the meeting of House ad-hoc committee, on the need to review the purchase, use and control of arms, ammunition and related hardware by military, paramilitary and other law enforcement agencies in the country.
Emefiele and Attahiru have been asked to appear before the house on April 7, 2021, by 2:00pm.

Others invited by the lower chamber are: Ministry of Finance, Bureau for Public Procurement, Ministry of Defence, and Ministry of Interior.
It was said that the CoAS had sent a representative, Maj.-Gen C. Ofuche, at the committee’s last sitting, but was rejected by the members.

Members of the committee were said to have insisted that the issue was serious and sensitive, and requested that Attahiru addressed them in person.
