Inibehe Effiong, a Human Rights attorney, has taken to his social media to react following his release from Uyo prison after 30 days of detention for contempt of court.
On July 27, Akwa Ibom State Chief Judge Ekaette Obot sentenced Effiong to prison for alleged contempt of court after the lawyer objected to the presence of armed police officers in court during proceedings in a defamation suit.
Taking to his Twitter page to tweet after regaining his freedom, Effiong vowed to continue speaking the hard truth to the faces of oppressors.
“I am back, stronger and more determined to confront the forces of oppression and to continue to speak nothing but the hard truth to the faces of the oppressors of our people. I feel sorry for those who thought they can break my spirit by incarcerating me,” he tweeted.
Effiong was handling a case for his client before Justice Obot’s court in Uyo before being sentenced to prison.
Effiong was initially detained in Ikot Ekpene prison before being transferred to Uyo prison.
In previous proceedings, Justice Obot had ordered court officials to temporarily seize phones from reporters and others in the courtroom, ostensibly to prevent the proceedings from being secretly recorded.
